Choosing Your Puppy or Dog

Choosing a Puppy or a new Dog can be an emotional decision. They are just so cute and adorable that it is easy to get carried away with the moment. This makes it all the more important that you do your homework and research before you go and see the puppy and make sure that the breed you are going to see is the right one for you and your family.

Doing this research in the initial stages will make training and settling your puppy or dog into his new home much easier and will lead to a happy and fulfilling life for both of you.

So what questions do we need to ask ourselves when we decide its time to get a new dog?

Very important:-

Do you have the time to provide exercise in the form of regular walks and play, in all weathers and on  dark nights. This might be difficult if both you and your partner work full time...think about it. The breed you are thinking of getting...what amount of exercise will the dog need and will this fit into your family lifestyle.

What about your dogs training and socialization, something your dog will require throughout its life. It is important that your dog is socialized towards other dogs and also other people!..believe me
When choosing a puppy or adult dog keep in mind that you are directly responsible for your dog's behavior so take care that the training and socialization are done correctly.

Another aspect to consider when choosing a new dog is the vet's bills. This will include annual vaccinations and regular worming. One never knows whats down the line a sudden illness or accident can run up pretty huge bills!

Costs will also include providing a proper diet to keep your puppy and dog in good condition. There is a huge variety of food to choose from but not all of it may be suitable for the breed you have choosen.
Boarding kennel costs need to be considered if you have regular holidays,
these could be costly.

Before you start your search also ask yourself the question ...Can you provide a safe and secure home for your dog for life. Puppies of all ages are appealing, so it is easy when choosing one to get carried away with the idea of taking him or her home without thinking of the consequences.

Your dog's health and happiness will be your responsibility, so if you do not think you can provide care for the rest of his life then think carefully before making the decision to adopt a puppy.

Are you certain you want to adopt a Puppy and not an adult dog. You need to look into the pros and cons of each? Yes Puppies are very cute but alot of work is involved in thier training and maybe an adult dog might suit you better.

Are you going to get your puppy from a breeder, a shelter or a pet shop? You need to make sure that you know how to find a reputable breeder and also what you need to look for in a pet shop. If you get your dog from a shelter then A dog's temperament and previous history are very important. If the dog has behaviour problems for example it cannot be left alone for long, the staff at the shelter should be able to give advice and assistance in order to overcome the problem.

These questions are just a few that you need to ask yourself before making that final decision to adopt a puppy or adult dog.
